2012 ANNUAL MEETING
Saturday, April 28 at Zion UCC , 3301 South 76th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53219
On April 28th at Zion UCC in Milwaukee 146 sisters and brothers in Christ (30 pastors, 54 lay delegates, 21 guests), representing 41 of our churches, gathered to celebrate 50 years of being in covenant with one another;
a Jubilee celebration where we remembered and renewed our fellowship and common faith.
Guided by the music of Rev. Bob Wang (Plymouth Congregational UCC in Burlington) and following a liturgical service written by Rev. Dan Schultz (Salem UCC in Wayne) the gathered were reminded of our covenantal past when they heard the Rev. David Rolfing speak of our beginnings and our zeal for justice and peace, particularly in the inner city areas. This zeal lead to the creation of Friedens Inner-City ministries, the Guest House, the Interfaith Conference participation and many more “projects” that spoke to the concerns of our neighborhoods.
The Rev. Kent Ulery, our Interim Associate Conference Minister serving the SE Association, spoke on how to renew this covenant; how to use new wine skins for the new reality of the churches and of the Association “going
somewhere” different than where we were before.
Part of these “new wine skins” dealt with approving changes to our Constitution to reflect the reality of no longer having our own Association Minister but sharing an Associate Conference Minister with the Southwest Association. The new Constitution, incorporating these changes, will be available soon.
Finally, because of the participation and energy of the gathered, I believe this was one of the most meaningful Annual Meetings our Association has had! Thank you all for making it so.
Peace
